  2. You missed out. Gotta go to The Hideout Chai Bar at 42 Rivington. Be one of the best experiences of your life. Shout out to Chris who owns/runs the place. 🙌

  3. I have mixed feelings about the idea of a "tenement museum". There are still hundreds of thousands of people who live in tenements and not by choice, they are often known by another name and that is "slums". Can you imagine the bathtub (no shower) in the livingroom-dining area? Or a 5 story walkup particularly for older people? Public housing was supposed to be a solution until the city decided they were too expensive to maintain and are now just crime ridden hellholes. Tenements have a mixed history but mostly not a very good one.

  4. I was born at 81 Hester lived at 296 Broome, 156 Madison, 176 Eldridge and 91 Allen from 1934 to 1962. I went to PS 42, JHS 65, Stuyvesant HS and NYCCC. I drove a cab from 1956 until 1959. Rode the 2nd Avenue El ro see the city; Names I remember: Weitzmann's Deli, Ratner's on Delancey, Pageant Tea Garden, Levy's, Yonah Shimmel's, Egg Cremes and Lime Rickey; Howard Clothes, Thom McAn, pickles on Essex St. along with the market, Seward Park, Educational Alliance, Loewe's Canal and Delancey and the Delancey and Palestine Movies, Sunshine Movie on Houston, Roosevelt park from Houston to Canal, Fred Bunz at Bowery, wholesale buying on Orchard, pushcart guy selling corn in summer and sweet potatoes in winter for 2-5 cents, All the Italian food you'd want on Mott and Mulberry St; Ferrara's and La Bella Ferrara for pastry.

  5. this is a great review. Most places I never heard about, and I always stays in LES when I’m in NYC. I like the calmness of the presentation, better than those hyped talk to much guys..

  6. Found it! You referenced the street art yesterday, on your live stream. It looks really interesting. Stairs though, up as well as down? Or is there a lift??
