About JamesandKarla:
Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.
In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & beyond and capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.
We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique ‘mom-and-pop’ stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.
Come see the city & subscribe to our channel 🙂

That is so thoughtful of how caring you guys are w small businesses. That’s exactly how I feel about the town I grew up in.(not all that far from you). I only wish that I had the know-how’s to have photographed what we had. That’s all the more reason I so enjoy your walks & seeing the buildings & businesses….they are to be treasured. And glad Hudson got a pastrami treat.
Brendon at the stickett inn on 9 and 1st is a lovely host

2:13:44 I sneezed during the replay and James said "bless you."
Help! I swear I saw a black Hudson Pizza tote bag in your merch… Did I imagine it or is it just out of stock? I will wait if it's out of stock I really want one ‼️👜🍕🖤
🤗✨💖💕🌷🍀💗💞😍😘😘
Thank you God bless you guys
Love this. I used to live on the corner of Houston and Mott Street in the 90s. A lot has changed. The bodega on the corner is now a bagel place. Ha.
Those chairs @ 31:34. Had to look em up, very nice taste Karla. De La Espada Autoban Deer chairs. Found a SINGLE one going for $1,200!!! 😯
All I can say another fine video promoting small businesses on Houston Street this video was extra extra extra good
Another Kramer moment: "Jerry, ya gotta help me. I'm lost! I'm at the corner of First and First!"
There is a bar on Houston street call The Knitting . I arrived there all excited thinking it was a new yarn shop. Left disappointed.
Remedy Diner was one of my favorites when I lived in
New York. Fabulous for Sunday Brunch and I loved their Saturday night dinner selections.
Orange is the new black wasn’t an mental institution, it was a prison.
Only you two (three)! "Here's a bar that used to be an icehouse …" Up rides a random guy on a citibike – "Oh, hi! I'm the owner!"
My favorite streams are always the lower east side ones since that is where I lived most of my life.
Thanks for the live-stream from Houston St. It was great to see the diverse selection of Mom and Pop shops that cover that area and the rich architecture that’s all around. Thanks for supporting small businesses in need and sharing this wonderful experience with us. Stay safe cool and dry and enjoy the rest of your night.
