New York City is one of the most wasteful cities in the world. But none of its trash is actually processed in NYC. It’s sent to waste-to-energy facilities and landfills as far away as Ohio and South Carolina. It takes a vast network of sanitation workers, trucks, trains, cranes, and barges — and $429 million a year — to get it there.

recycle that cut the waste down
That claw just grabbed a perfectly preserved pie 😂😂😂
Crazy how much shit I get from people as a garbage man. They have no idea what goes on beyond us taking the trash. I'd love to see what happens to them if we all stopped collecting trash for just a week or two.
Eye Opening! The United States is the Most Wasteful Country in the World. 🌎 Shame on Us. 👎
I didn't know the Cuomo brothers weighed that much🤔
It walks the streets every day bitching and sounding rude pretending it’s the biggest tough guy on earth. This description covers the trash and the people
A true New Yorker. "You dont smell garbage you smell money". Unsung heroes of cities all over the developed world.
This is how Tony Soprano made a lot of his money. Waste management
The only way to stop the Waste is to stop people from having more children!!! The world is over populated and it will only get worse!!! We must reduce the numbers of people or mother nature will do it for us!!! Also stop all plastic water bottles and plastic bags at the groceries!!!
so that's why they keep hitting the truck with their hands.. it also serves as a measuring system 😁
Im amazed and disgusted that all that garbage was dumped into the oceans had never heard before that used to happen every day's a school day
A lot of ppl think garbage men/women are dumb. But they know where the money is. Only problem is the stench!
Guy on keuka lake once told me I was a Garbological Engineer when I was picking up his trash. 🤔 Who would have guessed. Didn't even need to go to college. I spent more time trying not to get hit by other vehicles than I did thinking about garbage.
Fake news. They actually recycle that shit and turn it into residents.
it gets recycled and resold as products such as lawn chairs, funko pops, playstations and buffalo wild wing packaging
Scary how much waste we produce.
Recycling with individuals sorting items has proved to be inefficient and is a major source of plastic pollution. What is required is a central facility on a township of land with a second adjacent township in reserve about fifty miles away from the nearest habitation to which highway and railway access has been cut.
All manner of waste products should be sent to this facility without sorting and the material ground up and water added in order to turn it into a slurry. Nothing should end up in landfill. Movements to end the use of plastic grocery bags do not address the issue of what to do with the remainder in a culture where the use of plastic in every item is pervasive.
Separation of different materials in a slurry is a well-established industrial process. Gritty material, metals, fibrous material, rubber, plastics and organics are separated out of the flow, as it heads downstream. Tons of gold and other valuable metals might be recovered each year. Fibrous material may be turned into fuel with which to power generators and supply electricity to the plant.
Plastics should be compressed into bricks and stockpiled for the time being in order to be turned later into items like pavement or cooked under pressure with steam and turned back into petroleum products. For example, plastic might be mixed with sand and gravel and replace concrete sidewalks, turned into shingles, building panels, etc. Research will uncover a variety of ways to turn this material into useful products.
VERY very interesting
Burning trash. Lmao. Pretty sure it's great for the atmosphere.
Our world would look like walle
How is current generated from waste
so this is where all my team mates come from
Trash never sleeps.
People will be kicking themselves in future if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in Crypto as it's retracing…
8:43 5 years later. "Worker finds rare star wars collection in the trash! One disgruntled lover's revenge is another man's fortune."
1:47 "tractors" wow really?
Yeah, that is why in South Carolina you have to pay $100 for 2 Garbage Cans to get took a Week or Take it to the Dump you're self.
Trash Bricks ?
Exactly, at the moment bitcoin is the best and
profitable coin to buy and invest in.
It’s weird in so many ways. Many of the antiques and fine art in collections came from trash heaps at one point in their lifespans, a point when they were no longer new, maybe out of date or fashion and thrown out to be rescued. Sometimes it happens over and over again but if it’s all burned or dumped at sea or even buried under tarps, these things can never be rescued. Biggest lies 20th century was plastic is disposable and plastic is recycled.
im so triggered how she said tractors and not wheelloaders
Why don't we just toss it in to volcano s to burn?? Or be like Australia and burn it and turned it into power or something like that
They should make food out of the garbage and let the filthy new yorkers eat it
Reminds me of Wall E
Wall-E will be busy
new york is a shit hole run by crooks. Just like San Francisco
This is the side any marketing hides. It is very easy to release a product without caring about consequences once it is disposed. If you know how to build it you know how to dispose it, companies should be owners of the entire life cycle of the products they sell.
Good job 🤩
Toy story 3
I did garbage for a season, and it’s very physically demanding and taxing after a few months. I’m also a scrawny kind of guy so it’s on my behalf too but still no joke.
Honestly it’s disgusting how much the city doesn’t recycle. I’m from Korea and we literally have a section for everything. This is just pure laziness, lack of government oversight, and individual effort.
"reducing carbon emissions" burns 3.2 million tons of trash
